Art has been a life-long passion of Verna's...
no matter what the medium.
Born in Abbeville, Louisiana of Acadian heritage, she moved with her
family to the small fishing village of Bayou La Batre, Alabama at an
early age. Her early works reflected the bayous and coastal areas. They
still do today, but she has widened her interests to so many other
things such as wildlife, the Southwest, still lifes and candid pictures
of people. |

Verna's academic background is very strong in art and she was privileged to have studied with notable artists from various countries including Jacques Hans Gallrein. of Madgeburg, Germany. She attended Oklahoma State University and also studied at Watkins Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. While living and studying in Nashville, she worked as a special painting instructor for the Metro Board of Parks. |

| |
In 1990, Verna came back to the Gulf Coast where much of her time was spent reflecting her love of the area on her many canvases. |
|
| |
She still takes time to teach art classes -- sharing her knowledge and skills with others. She says it keeps her on her toes and what a thrill to see a light go off in a student's head when she helps them to see things differently...to see them through the eyes of an artist! |
|
| |
Her works can be found in many collections in the U.S., Germany, Canada, Brazil, Portugal, Japan, Thailand and the Czech Republic. |
|
| |
Now, some of her happiest days are spent doing portraits of her six grand children. Much time is spent enjoying her spacious studio in her new home. When not painting, (and sometimes while painting,) most of her time is spent just enjoying life and having fun with her best friend and husband, Buddy! |
